Family Values

I wonder if these are the kinds of "values" all those red-Staters were voting on. So, Gonzales didn't think his stepson working for Hustler founder Larry Flynt was a bad thing until he thought it might hurt his nomination? Only then did Gonzales tell his stepson to quit? Hmm... it seems that "family values" matter to Gonzales only when his career is in jeopardy. That doesn't exactly show a lot of commitment to "family values," does it?

And then there's the whole Bernard Kerik thing. The Bush regime's late nominee for the Homeland Security shows how much the conservatives really care about "values." For one thing, Kerik isn't so wedded to this idea that marriage should be "between one man and one woman." He seems to think it's okay for marriage to be "between one man and two women."

Then, of course, hiring an illegal immigant nanny without paying any taxes is classic Republican "values." Keep those illegals out of our country, except if we need cheap help with the kids we don't have time to take care of. Oh, and paying taxes is apparently just for the poor or stupid.

And, of course, there's the fact that Kerik apparently had not one, but two affairs going on behind his wife's back at the same time! So, apparently Kerik's values extend not only to being married to two women at the same time, but also to having a wife and two mistresses at the same time. Yay for conservative "values."

But, apparently Kerik doesn't like it when one of his mistresses dumps him. One of them hired a bodyguard because she feared for her life. And couldn't trust the police to protect her, since Kerik was the police chief.

This is just one example of the sanctimonious hypocrisy of the conservatives that drives me nuts. We've got a President who lied in order to start a war, used his connections to get out of Vietnam without serving out his National Guard term, and is a drunk-driver and former coke fiend, running on "values." It's no wonder his cabinet nominees are such scumbags. The Bush regime figures if he and Darth Cheney (who is under investigation himself for misdeeds while CEO of Halliburton) can pull the wool over the eyes of the American people to get reelected, then they can nominate any pornographer's stepfather or bigamist double-cheater and get away with it.

Sigh.
