Christian Hypocrisy

Media Matters has a fun little article on how Pat Robertson called kwanzaa "an absolute fraud." His evidence appears to be claims that it was made up by someone from the West Coast. Which, it was, and which I never recall anyone claiming different. How does that make kwanzaa a "fraud?"

Mr. Robertson, let me tell you about a real fraud. You see, there's this god, he was born of a virgin mother and died only to be resurrected. His birthday was December 25th.

His name was Mithras. He was a Persian/Roman sun god around the same time that Christianity was getting started. Christians decided that "sun god" and "Son of God" were pretty close, and since nobody knew when Jesus was born anyway, why not just make it December 25th so people don't have to change up their holiday plans to become Christians? And so, Christmas was born!

That, my friends, is what is known as "a fraud."

Mithras is the true reason for the season. Merry Mithras' Birthday, everyone!
